Sample College Project

National College of Ireland (NCI) has developed Data Bytes, a Transition Year programme that helps students understand Data Science, starting with the basics.

Students on the undergraduate degrees in computing and data science at NCI learn about and investigate the wide-reaching touchpoints data science has in society. Assignments on these courses are practical and encourage the student to apply theory to real-world challenges.

One student, Mark Kelly, a data analytics graduate from the BSc in Computing, chose to investigate whether data science could find the best county in Ireland. He created an app that takes into account a number of variables, so you can filter the qualities that matter most to you: crime rates, classroom sizes, property prices, etc.; and see which county suits you best, based on your priorities.

Try the application out for yourself and see what county in Ireland is right for you!

Through Data Bytes, TY students will get an introduction to the ways in which data science can be applied and will complete their own data science project.
