Meet the Faculty

National College of Ireland (NCI) has developed Data Bytes, a Transition Year programme that helps students understand Data Science, starting with the basics.

Frances Sheridan
Frances Sheridan

Frances Sheridan is a lecturer and programme director at NCI and has been teaching in the School of Computing for 15 years.  Frances holds and MSc. In Technology and Learning from Trinity College and specialises in innovative learning, teaching and assessment methods. 

Emer Thornbury
Emer Thornbury

Emer Thornbury is the full-time tutor in the School of Computing and a lecturer in computing at NCI. She specialises in delivering innovative ways to help students to learn problem-solving, planning and programming skills when studying computing. She organises and delivers summer camps for TY students at NCI. Emer has a HDip in Computing and a Masters in Learning and Teaching, with a focus in online teaching. She has been with NCI since 2015.

Lisa Murphy

Lisa Murphy is a Programme Director and Lecturer in the School of Computing at the National College of Ireland (NCI). Lisa has been lecturing in Programming, Web Design, Interactive Design, Information Systems Management, Change Management and Software Applications at NCI since 2012 and holds an M.Sc. in Computing and Design and an BSc. in Information Systems Management.

She has particular interests in student engagement and retention and her pedagogical interests include Gamification, Flipped Classrooms and Problem Based Learning.  More specifically, her work examines the integration of Gamification in the classroom and the impact it has on student learning.

Dr. Adriana Chis

Adriana E. Chis is a Lecturer in the School of Computing at National College of Ireland. She received a PhD in Computer Science from University College Dublin, Ireland in 2013. Her research interests include performance and memory analysis, program analysis, compilers, runtime systems, cloud computing, and data-intensive systems.

Sam Cogan

Sam Cogan is the Digital Learning Designer at NCI and is passionate about technology, learning and how they meet. Sam has an MSc in Web Technologies, a Post Grad Diploma in Learning and Teaching and is currently completing his Educational Doctorate with University Of Sheffield.

Arghir Moldovan
Dr. Arghir-Nicolae Moldovan

Dr. Arghir-Nicolae Moldovan is Lecturer in Computing with NCI. He received the Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Technology Enhanced Learning from NCI in 2014 and 2011, respectively, and a B.Eng. in Telecommunications Engineering from Politehnica University of Timisoara in 2008. His research interests include technology enhanced learning, adaptation and personalisation, quality of experience, data science and cybersecurity. 

Keith Maycock
Dr. Keith Maycock

Dr. Keith Maycock is a faculty member in the School of Computing. He is actively researching in the area of technology enhances learning in particular investigating the impact that artificial intelligence can play in helping to create dynamic learning ecosystems.

Claudia Margarita Fernández Rivera

Claudia Margarita Fernández Rivera is an award-winning, multidisciplinary designer, lecturer, architect, and researcher that runs her life on Excel. For more than 3 years she has been creating multimedia educational courses for different audiences across various subjects. She loves mixing these fields (and more!) into a transdisciplinary bowl to create learning experiences.
